New FWF Young Investigator Research Group Project

15.04.2020

A group of young researchers at our centre has been awarded a Young Investigator Researcher Group project from the FWF, entitled “PlayNICE - Interplay between biological nitrification inhibitors, nitrogen cycling, and agronomic nitrogen use efficiency”.

The PlayNICE core team consists of Petra Pjevac, Chris Sedlacek, Andrew Giguere (DOME), Lucia Fuchslueger (TER), as well as Christoph Bueshl and Maria Doppler at the Institute of Bioanalytics and Agro-Metabolomics at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. This four-year long, interdisciplinary project aims to identify and extensively characterize plant-derived compounds that inhibit nitrification in soil – so called biological nitrification inhibitors (BNIs). Inhibiting soil nitrification with BNIs can increase the nitrogen retention in agricultural soils and plant nitrogen use efficiency. We are very much looking forward to this highly collaborative project, which ideally complements the research goals of the Comammox Research Platform.

Congratulations to the PlayNICE Team!
